Hi friends
The Campfire is a monthly gathering for us to warm our hands and hearts as we grow on Substack. If you're looking for inspiration and connection, you are in the right place!
I’m sure you don’t need me to remind you that music has enormous power to uplift and inspire, to shift our mood, sooth anxiety, or offer comfort or inspiration. It can reduce our stress hormones, release dopamine, and help us feel more connected to ourselves and others. It reminds us of the beauty in the world, particularly in those humans who can express emotion when we can’t find the words.
These days I love the gentleness of calm classical music on the background, to soothe and help me focus. I appreciate it’s complexity and tenderness. If I need energy, I will switch on the radio for some popping tunes to dance to while I cook or clean, and when my teen daughter is home. Sometimes when I feel broken-hearted I listen to Joni Mitchell’s ‘Blue’ album on to remind me I am not alone in my swirling emotions. I have even been known to strum my guitar to it!
One of my favourite uplifting songs is ‘Ocean Drive’ by The Lighthouse Family, which brings a smile to my face whatever my mood. I can almost feel the wind in my hair when I listen!
My all time favourite song is ‘Here Comes The Sun’ by the Beatles. I have shed many a tear to this. It kept my hope alive as I navigated loss, and the devastation of the years that followed. This promise of brighter days kept me going; and they were right: the sun did come again. Now in happier times, whenever I hear it I am flooded with gratitude for that.
So, it’s over to you! Let us know in the comments:
